About the 1995 Congress

The 21st annual Surrey Easter Chess Congress was held at the Central Library, St Nicholas Way, Sutton, from 14 to 17 April 1995.

The congress attracted 494 players in seven tournaments, the third-highest entry to date. The Open field contained 60 FIDE-rated players, including 12 titled players, and provided opportunities for part-rated and unrated players to achieve FIDE qualifying scores.

John Emms won the Frank Winter Memorial Open and the Southern Counties Chess Union Individual Championship title. The two British Championship places were awarded to Lawrence Cooper and Simon Brown.
